Jannik Sinner’s stellar 2024 season is showing little sign of slowing down into the final stretch.
The World No. 1 bounced back from his championship-match defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in Beijing with a dominant run to the title at the Rolex Shanghai Masters. Sinner eased past Novak Djokovic in straight sets on Sunday to earn his Tour-leading seventh title of the season, and his third at ATP Masters 1000 level this year.
“It’s always tough to give [your successes] a ranking or a number, but today was a very special day because of different circumstances,” reflected Sinner. “Having Roger in the stands, and Carlos, and Juan Carlos, and the atmosphere has been great. Playing against Novak in a final, it’s always very, very tough, so I’m happy how I handled the situation, and very happy to hold this trophy here.”

Sinner’s victory against Djokovic was witnessed from the stands by his great rival Carlos Alcaraz and his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero. Swiss icon and two-time Shanghai titlist Roger Federer was also inside Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena to watch Sinner’s first match since he clinched ATP Year-End No. 1 presented by PIF honours for 2024.
“The season’s not over yet, there are still a couple of tournaments,” said Sinner. “Throughout the whole season I had a lot of success, and hopefully we can keep going, I can keep improving as a player, and then we see what comes.”
Sinner is the first man to win more than six tour-level titles in a calendar year since Andy Murray won nine in 2016. The 23-year-old is ready to push on for further success before 2024 is through.
