The timing of Mendoza’s debut remains uncertain. While Mendoza will not join Carr as the only rookie quarterbacks in Raiders history to start a season opener, he has the potential to join Carr (who started 16 games in 2014) and Aidan O’Connell (who started 10 games in 2023) as the only rookie quarterbacks in team history to start at least 10 games.

Brock Bowers consistently demonstrates why he is regarded as one of the top players at his position. He has made numerous impactful plays throughout training camp. Regardless of the quarterback, he serves as a reliable target in the passing game. Additionally, Michael Mayer has the opportunity to enhance the room’s overall effectiveness. Mayer has performed well during camp, and the Raiders are expected to depend on him significantly. Furthermore, his blocking skills are notable on film.
The Raiders are one of five teams (along with the Bears, Packers, Chiefs, and Dolphins) lacking a wide receiver who has achieved at least 1,000 receiving yards in a season. Currently, Las Vegas considers Bowers to be its leading pass catcher. However, the team will require additional receivers to step up and contribute. There is potential for Tre Tucker or Jalen Nailor to emerge and have a productive season. Aside from these players, there are significant concerns within the receiver group.
The Raiders are a young team that requires patience, so it is not advisable to set postseason expectations at this time. However, when Las Vegas decides to begin starting Mendoza, it will be important for him to demonstrate the potential to lead the offense moving forward. Given the team’s recent history at the quarterback position, maintaining stability at that position is crucial for the organization’s long-term improvement.
The Raiders are projected to finish the season with a 9-8 record. They will face the ninth most challenging schedule, and securing key victories will be important.
